Recent changes to the Fire Safety Regulations have been implemented to ensure people can evacuate safely and quickly from a building in the event of fire or emergency and to ensure that required fire installations for the building are maintained so that they can operate in way that they were originally intended.
Owners and occupiers now have certain responsibilities for the safety standards of their common area. There is now onus on bodies corporate (owners/occupiers) to provide clear evacuation routes, fire evacuation planning and instructions and maintenance of fire safety installations.
It is advised that all bodies corporate carry out First Response Training and complete a Fire Audit to ensure the fire safety of the building is being carried out in accordance with the legislation brought in 1st July 2007. Failure to comply may result in fines from QLD Fire.
